In 2006, Sharon Joseph, Chair of the America Zoo Association (AZA) Bison, Buffalo and Cattle Advisory Group kindly gave permission for the EAZA Cattle and Camelid TAG to adopt the AZA Husbandry Manual for Wild Cattle Species for use in Europe. This gesture reflects well on the spirit of cooperation that exists internationally in our community and for which we are most grateful.
Although there will be minor differences in how this group of species is managed in the US and Europe we feel that this excellent publication covers the essential points to allow good husbandry standards to be maintained in European collections. In our opinion it was pointless to produce an almost identical set of guidelines for Europe when a high standard document already existed.
If you feel that additional advice, unique to the European situation, needs to
be included, please contact the TAG chairs and we will consider the points for
inclusion as an appendix.
